Will Justin Fields or Russell Wilson start for the Steelers vs Cowboys in Week 5?

With Russell Wilson nursing a calf injury, Justin Fields has led the Steelers to a 3-1 start. They face the Dallas Cowboys in primetime this Sunday night.

The Steelers suffered their first loss of the season in Week 4 to the Indianapolis Colts, 27-24, despite their best efforts at a rally. They were down 17-0 late in the first half and quarterback Justin Fields, who has been filling in for an injured Russell Wilson, helped them climb back up, running for two second-half touchdowns and throwing one touchdown pass to tight end Pat Freiermuth, but a botched snap led the Colts to seal the victory.

The Steelers now turn their attention to the 2-2 Dallas Cowboys, who are fresh off a Thursday night win over the New York Giants.

Fields will start vs Cowboys

Despite getting sacked four times and losing one fumble, Justin Fields had a great game last week and has thus far led the Steelers to an impressive 3-1 record and the top of the AFC North. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has said that Fields will start against the Cowboys on Sunday night in Week 5. Russell Wilson is ramping up in practice this week and Tomlin still hasn’t named a starter for the season, but for Week 5, Fields remains it.

Through their first four games, Fields hasn’t put up huge numbers and it’s been the Steelers’ defense that’s been the main component of their success so far. But still, Fields has been playing quite well. And on Sunday, he’s against a banged-up Dallas defense that’s been struggling on all accounts. The Cowboys have given up the 20th-most passing yards this season and rank 27th in points allowed (26).

Even worse for Dallas is the fact that they’ll be playing without star edge rusher Micah Parsons and defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, who were both injured in last week’s game against the Giants. Fields will look to capitalize on that and the Cowboys’ defensive holes to start putting up more points for the Steelers in Week 5 and look to improve to 4-1.

The Steelers host the Cowboys at Acrisure Stadium this Sunday night for a primetime clash at 8:20 p.m. ET. You can follow along with all the action with our live text coverage of the game, brought to you by yours truly right here on AS USA.
