While the official opening ceremony is set for Friday, July 26, the action began yesterday with soccer (where there was controversy that had Lionel Messi insólito) and rugby sevens. Today continues with early competitions, setting the stage for the grand opening.

Regarding the USWNT chasing the gold medal, Emma Hayes’ team start out as favourites, with odds of +170 ahead of world champions Spain (+200) and tournament hosts France (+500). That said, the odds often have a habit of getting these things wrong, as we remember from the last Women’s World Cup when the Stars and Stripes exited early in the round of 16.
