The Olympic Games are welcoming new sports this year - here’s a look at the list.
The Paris Olympic Games are almost upon us, adding yet another sprinkling of elite sport to the already jam-packed calendar. And we’re all for it.
Every time the world-famous Games come around, new sports are added to the list, with the diversity and makeup of the sporting calendar adapting to be “associated with young people and reward creativity and athletic performance” (so says the official website).
As such, in order to keep us all up to date, here’s a list of all the 40 sports at the Games, with the debutants coming at the end.
On three, along with London, Paris is the city that has hosted the Olympics the most times in history. Los Angeles will equal the record in 2028.
For this edition, almost 11,000 athletes from 206 different nations will compete across 329 events over two weeks.

New Olympic sports for the Paris Games:
Karate, baseball and softball all failed to make the cut this year, although the latter two will return for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
Held on the river Seine as well as the Jardins du Trocadéro, the opening ceremony will take place on Friday July 26, 2024 at 1:30pm ET/10:30am PT. Just over two weeks after the opening ceremony, the Games will conclude when the closing ceremony is held at the Stade de France on Sunday August 11, at 1:30pm ET/10:30am PT.
