2022 FedExCup playoffs: who’s who in the PGA Tour’s three-event postseason finale?

The PGA Tour is heading into its final tournaments with the best players this year striving to be at the top of the pile after the FedExCup Playoffs.

This year’s FedExCup playoffs will retain the same format and venues as the last few editions before the planned changes for 2023 come into effect, but it will still be tainted by the absence of the players who have defected to LIV Golf and those who might do so in the future, such as Cameron Smith. These are the main names to keep an eye on over the next three weekends.

Scottie Scheffler

The number one in the world has a bit of a chip on his shoulder after underperforming in the second half of the season. He’s the best positioned player in the rankings and will therefore have the most advantage coming into the playoffs.

Patrick Cantlay

Last year’s FedExCup winner enters the playoffs as the fifth-ranked golfer on the tour after a season that saw him have more top 10 finishes than anyone else.

Rory McIlroy

The veteran Northern Irishman has seen quite a few tournaments slip between his fingers in the last months so he will try to redeem himself in the playoffs, as the sixth-ranked golfer this season.

Cameron Smith

The British Open winner is in the middle of a possible defection to LIV Golf and while no one knows what the future holds the Aussie will try to go out and show his form once again as one of the favorites.

Jon Rahm

Last year’s US Open winner and FedExCup runner-up has endured an up-and-down season with a few good results but scarce wins, yet no one doubts that he has the potential to play three good tournaments to find himself in a position to lift the trophy.

Justin Thomas

Thomas returned to his major-winning ways with his second PGA Championship, which will make it easier for him to maintain his six-year top-10 finish streak in the FedExCup for another year.

Xander Schauffele

The Olympic gold medalist has been playing good golf over the last few months, with a win at the Scottish Open included, and will be a tough opponent for the big names.

Matt Fitzpatrick

The US Open winner has not been playing as well as he did in June, but he has had a few more top-10s this season and may get his first one at the FedExCup.

The first tournament of the playoffs, the 2022 FedEx St Jude Championship, will be played from August 12 to 15.
