2022 US Open: Who plays today September 2? Match times for Serena Williams, Medvedev, Kyrgios, Murray, Gauff…
Friday at the US Open includes some exciting match-ups featuring the likes of Serena Williams, Nick Kyrgios, Andy Murray, Coco Gauff and Madison Keys.
Friday at the US Open promises to provide a treat for fans lucky enough to have tickets as the draw throws up some tantalising clashes, with the highlight Serena Williams’ game against Ajla Tomljanovic as the retiring US great looks to continue her run at Flushing Meadows after accounting for world number two Anett Kontaveit in the previous round. That match opens night session proceedings on Arthur Ashe and will be followed by top men’s seed Daniil Medvedev taking on qualifier Yibing Wu. Nick Kyrgios will provide the fireworks on Louis Armstrong to tie off the night session against American J. J. Wolf, the world number 87 who knocked out 16th seed Roberto Bautista-Agut in the first round.
Prior to that match on Louis Armstrong fans with evening tickets will have a chance to watch in-form Caroline Garcia take on 2019 champion Bianca Andreescu, who beat Serena Williams in the final that year. Garcia won in Cincinnati to limber up for the US Open and is a dark horse for the title in one of the kinder sections of the draw where her projected quarterfinal opponent is Coco Gauff, who takes on 2017 champion Madison Keys in an all-American clash on Arthur Ashe during the afternoon.
That game will be preceded by Andy Murray’s bid to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time since 2017. The veteran Scot, who has been plagued by injury over the past few seasons, won his first Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows in 2012 to arrest a run of losing four major finals in New York, Melbourne and SW19. Murray will play 13th seed Matteo Berrettini, who missed out on Wimbledon this season due to covid-19.
