Recognized as one of the nation’s premier golf facilities, the Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course is exactly that and then some. With its majestic views of the Pacific Ocean, the course has hosted the U.S. Open on two occasions (2008 & 2021) and is now home to the annual Farmers Insurance Open.

A bit about the Torrey Pines golf course

Opened in 1957, the Torrey Pines facility consists of two 18-hole golf courses - North and South - that sit on the west coast of the United States and are owned by the city of San Diego, California. Designed by William Francis Bell, the son of the well-known course architect William P. Bell, the course has seen its share of alterations over the years, however, it continues to offer both players and spectators stunning views of the ocean. At par 72 the course has a length of 7,802 yards and an elevation of 380 feet.

As mentioned above, the course is considered among the best in the country and as such has played host to several events. Perhaps the most iconic of those was the U.S. Open in 2008 when Tiger Woods won in sudden death after an 18-hole playoff against Rocco Mediate. Where its name is concerned, the course is named for the Torrey Pine, a rare tree that grows wild only along that specific stretch of coastline in San Diego County as well as on Santa Rosa Island. Indeed, the tree can be seen in the logo of the course.
