2024 US Open: Round 2 tee times, Friday pairings and featured groups
After the first round of the 2024 U.S. Open, N. Irishman Rory McIlroy and the American Patrick Cantlay are tied for the lead, both shooting 5-under par.
It was a great day for Rory McIlroy, similar to the ones he had at the Wells Fargo Championship when he won the last time on the PGA tour. In his answers at the press conference held after Round 1, he said that he brought the controlling mindset that helped him in the last year, especially from last year’s Celebrity Classic, to raise the level of his game and gain consistency.
“I felt like I controlled most aspects of my game really well. Controlled myself, controlled my mind,” he said.
After the opening round, Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay are the co-leaders, each shooting a 5-under 65. McIlroy, a four-time major champion, played bogey-free golf and carded five birdies, while Cantlay had six birdies and one bogey. Following them is Ludvig Aberg at 4 under, and then Matthieu Pavon and Bryson DeChambeau at 3 under.
