Update:
When the Russian takes on the Englishman on Saturday night, there will be a lot more than just his belts at stake. Indeed, there will be a lot of cash.

Saturday night is fight night in Quebec and it appears we’re in for an epic fight between Artur Beterbiev and Callum Smith. Of course, there is the small matter of three belts on the line and a fat purse, but how much are we talking about?

Artur Beterbiev vs. Callum Smith: The Lowdown & the purse

When Artur Beterbiev steps into the ring on Saturday night at the Videotron Center in Quebec City, Canada, it will be to defend his IBF, WBC, and WBO belts against England’s Callum Smith. The current light-heavyweight champion holds a 19-0 record, with each win coming by way of knockout. Incidentally, this is the first time that the Russian will be in action since making light work of Anthony Yarde last just about a year ago. Since turning pro in 2017, the 38-year-old has decimated his division and is heavily favored to continue that path on Saturday night.

Of course, his opponent will likely have something to say about that. At 33 years old Callum Smith is a dangerous fighter and his record of 29-1 shows that. His lone loss came against an opponent whom most would hesitate to face, Canelo Alvarez. It’s worth noting that following his loss to the Mexican star, he joined the light heavyweight division. Since then he’s fought twice and won on both occasions against Lenin Castillo and Mathieu Bauderlique respectively. Those wins wins were enough to grant him the chance at a title shot. While he remains the clear underdog, it wouldn’t be a total surprise if he causes an upset.

Regarding how much these guys are going to pocket when the fight ends, we can tell you it’s going to be a pretty penny. To be clear, the terms that were previously agreed upon are such that the champion will take home 70% of the winning bid from Top Rank. What that means is that Beterbieve will earn $1,332,450, while Smith’s purse will be $571,050. To be clear, these figures do not include any potential bonuses or additional funds that could be earned from the gate.
