Update:

The U.S. Women’s Open second round was canceled due to darkness Friday and play will resume at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Anna Huang will have three holes left in her first major as a pro. Pretty impressive stuff from a 16-year-old golfer who has a very bright future ahead of herself.

The recently turned pro from Canada is represented by DEFY. The talent growth agency is dedicated to giving young athletes the support they need to thrive. Huang qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open after qualifying at New Albany Country Club in Ohio.

We had the chance to ask Huang some questions about her game, family support, idols and turning pro.

Interview with Anna Huang

What do you consider to be the strongest part of your game?

My irons and short game are definitely my strength—especially around the greens. I feel confident under pressure when I need to get up and down, and that’s helped me a lot in tournaments so far this season on the LET. When I’m not playing my best I still feel like I can put a decent score together.

Tell us about how you got started in golf. Did your parents introduce you to the game?

Yes, my parents were the ones who first introduced me to the game around the age of 4. It started with messing around on the driving range with my dad, and over time I just fell in love with it. I knew pretty early on that I wanted to pursue it seriously.

Who are some of your idols in golf? Who would you love to play with?

Nelly Korda and Lydia Ko are definitely two of my biggest idols. I really admire their focus and dedication. I was lucky enough to play with Nelly last year and hopefully get some more opportunities to do so in the near future!

Going pro at the age of 16 is a big decision: Did you have any doubts about giving up your amateur status?

I took time to think it through because I knew it was a big deal. After getting my card at European Tour qualifying in December 2024, with the support of my family and coaches, I felt like it was the right decision. It was a big decision, but ultimately, I knew I wanted to test myself at the highest level and gain experience across Europe.
