From teen prodigy to LPGA Icon: A look at Lexi Thompson’s incredible LPGA Tour earnings

Joseph McMahon
Born in Chicago, Joe played varsity football and baseball in Bowling Green, Ohio for BGHS and later played lacrosse at BGSU. A year abroad in Spain changed everything. As destiny would have it he ended up living in Zaragoza, running his own business, teaching Journalism at a private university then working as a SEO journalist for Diario AS.
Update:

It’s hard to believe Lexi Thompson could actually consider retiring. She is only 30 years old. That said the women’s golf superstar has been playing professionally since 2010 and won her first LPGA Tour event the following year. She has competed in the Solheim Cup six times for Team USA and represented the US in the Olympics in 2016 and 2021.

It’s surprising to see her on the course this year after announcing in 2024 she would be retiring. She has played in four tournaments so far in 2025 and is looking to play strong in her 19th consecutive U.S. Open.

She has won 11 times on the LPGA Tour and has had 91 career top 10s. Her career has had some ups and downs, but she has consistently played at the highest level competing in most tour events with very few breaks and with the following annual earnings:

Lexi Thompson's earnings year-by-year on the LPGA Tour

  • 2011: $244,303

The LPGA Tour, the Solheim Cup and especially all of her fans will miss Thompson after her retirement. As golf fans, we will have to enjoy watching her play while we can during her last season on tour.

“Lexi’s impact extends far beyond the golf course. She embodies the spirit and dedication of our founders,” LPGA commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan said in a statement back in 2024.
