Carlos Alcaraz reveals next tattoo after historic Australian Open win

Carlos Alcaraz stunned the tennis world again on Sunday by winning his first Australian Open, cementing his place as the youngest player ever to claim all four Grand Slam titles. At just 22, the Spaniard lifted the trophy at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena after defeating Novak Djokovic, and now it’s time to continue a unique personal tradition: commemorating victories with tattoos.

Alcaraz already has tattoos marking each of his previous major wins. He sports a strawberry for his Wimbledon title in July 2023, the Eiffel Tower for his 2024 French Open victory, and a Statue of Liberty with the Brooklyn Bridge for his first Grand Slam at the 2022 US Open.

After his Australian Open triumph, many eyes turned to this unusual habit. Alcaraz didn’t shy away from the question and revealed what his next tattoo will be. “I said it will definitely be a kangaroo, a small kangaroo. I don’t know exactly where yet, but probably on my leg. Not sure if it will be the right or left side. I have to choose carefully, but it will be next to the Roland Garros or Wimbledon tattoo. I just have to decide,” he said.

The meaning behind the kangaroo

Alcaraz had already promised himself a kangaroo tattoo if he won at Melbourne Park. The animal holds deep cultural significance in Australia and is a national symbol, representing energy, resilience, and moving forward without looking back - qualities that perfectly describe Alcaraz.

The kangaroo is also featured on Australia’s coat of arms and carries rich spiritual and narrative importance for Indigenous communities. Soon, it will join Alcaraz’s collection, a permanent tribute to his strength, progress, protection, and historic achievement.
