Golf’s richest golfer just got richer: How Scottie Scheffler earned $18 million before the FedEx Cup playoffs

Joseph McMahon
Born in Chicago, Joe played varsity football and baseball in Bowling Green, Ohio for BGHS and later played lacrosse at BGSU. A year abroad in Spain changed everything. As destiny would have it he ended up living in Zaragoza, running his own business, teaching Journalism at a private university then working as a SEO journalist for Diario AS.
Update:

They say good things happen to good people and this case good things happened to a good golfer, who just added $18 million to his bank account. Scheffler is having a stellar year, but is still far off from his 2024 earnings of $58.5 million.

Scottie Scheffler has been world No. 1 for 149 weeks. Scheffler is back to his winning ways in 2025 with wins at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson, his first PGA Championship title, the 2025 Memorial Tournament and the Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

Scheffler got off to a slow start in 2025 after cutting his hand in the kitchen on Christmas Day. He has participated in 10 events so far this year, making the cut in all of them and winning in the last two events he participated in. He has played in 16 tournaments so far in 2025 and has only earned less than $500,000 on three occasions.

Scottie Scheffler’s 2025 bonus

Scheffler hasn’t played since the Open Championship back in July, but has finished the regular season at No. 1, which gave him $8 million as well as $10 million for his FedEx Cup bonus money. Changes have been made in 2025 to the FedEx Cup playoff: There will be no bonus strokes given this year and the money allocation has changed, which is why Scheffler earned the $10 million mentioned above and will also receive $5 million more because he is guaranteed to be No. 1 in the playoff standings after the BMW Championship.
