How is the United States preparing for the 2026 World Cup and LA 2028?
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are coming to an end and the United States is already thinking about hosting the two biggest events: the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 LA Olympics.
This Sunday marked the closing ceremony of the world’s largest sporting event: the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which ended at the Stade de France.
The best athletes on the planet now have to change their focus about the XXXIV edition of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028. In addition, the United States will host the 2026 World Cup, and here we tell you a very interesting fact about this.
With the organization of the most important tournament in men’s soccer and a new Olympic event on its territory, the nation of the ‘Stars and Stripes’ will once again be honored to host these two events consecutively. The first time was with the 1994 World Cup in the USA and the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, so they already have the experience and infrastructure necessary to do so.
It is worth noting that the United States is one of only four countries to have received this honor. Its southern neighbor hosted the 1968 Mexico City Olympics (in the nation’s capital) and the 1970 World Cup; Germany hosted the 1972 Munich Olympics and the 1974 World Cup; and Brazil hosted the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
It is true that Mexico and Canada will join them in the 2026 competition, but the spotlight belongs to the United States due to the number of official matches they have designated and the fact that they are the only ones in charge of hosting the final rounds, starting with the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final. On the other hand, California will welcome the best athletes on the planet in 2028 in the highest-quality venues.
Club World Cup in 2025 and the frustrated dream of 2027
Another interesting point is that they will host the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025, the first edition to be contested by 32 teams. The best teams from all six confederations will be participating in this tournament, and some of the most notable are Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Chelsea, River Plate, Flamengo and Al Hilal.
Finally, despite having applied to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027, the United States and Mexico withdrew their candidacy in order to prepare to take over the 2031 edition.
That is why the competition will be held in Brazil in three years, and the USWNT will try to win its fifth World Cup to dethrone Spain.
