How much money did Rory McIlroy earn on the PGA Tour in 2022?
The 2022 PGA Tour season has come to an end and it’s been quite a campaign. With that we breakdown the total earnings of the man who was in the middle of it all, Rory McIlroy
It’s been quite a year so far for Rory McIlroy. From battling with LIV Golf’s players to starting a new golf league with fellow star Tiger Woods, the Northern Irishman has also done a lot of winning. Let’s take a look at just how much he’s won in terms of his earnings.
2022 has been a good year for Rory McIlroy
With his most recent victory at the FedEx Cup - the third time he’s won it - Rory McIlroy made history. It also didn’t hurt that he got a massive payday to go with it. Indeed, with the win McIlroy registered his fourth season in which he has accumulated more than three wins and the first since 2019 when he won the FedEx Cup for the second time. Fans will remember that his first came back in 2016.
Regarding how much McIlroy made, the eye-popping $18 million that he took home for winning the FedEx Cup will be added to the more than $50 million in FedExCup bonus money that he’s won across his career. Truth be told, it was an incredible season for McIlroy who showed consistency throughout the campaign. With only three finishes outside of the top 25 in 16 starts, McIlroy posted 10 top-10 finishes including all four of the majors. In addition, he also led the Tour in Strokes Gained: Total, averaging more than two strokes per round lower than the field’s scoring average. Where his career numbers are concerned, The Tour Championship marked the 22nd title that he’s won.
“I’m back to playing the golf that I’m used to playing and the golf that I know that I can play,” McIlroy said recently. “This year feels very similar to the way I played in 2019. It’s a carbon copy in terms of the consistency and the numbers and the strokes gained numbers, but my finishes in the majors have been better and that’s been a real positive looking ahead into next year and the future.”
