TIger Woods and the swoosh company are parting ways after 27 years. It has been rumored for a while that it could happen due to some signals that got the rumor mill buzzing. Jason Day recently dropped the brand and switched to Malbon Golf. The Aussie golfer had been with Nike since 2016, but last weekend at the Sentry he was already wearing his much talked about new apparel. Tiger Woods’ son Charlie signed with Greyson Clothiers, which really got people talking. Well, the day has come.

How much did Tiger make over 27 years with Nike?

Woods made Nike a lot of money and they made sure their star was happy over the years. According to essentially sports, his first deal with Nike was in 1996 and was for $40 million. The company owned by Phil Knight continued to pay Tiger more and more over the years even after Tiger’s domestic problems and poor play made people question the viability of the deal.

Tiger Woods' contract deals over the years

  • $40 million (1996-2001)
  • $100 million (2001 - 2006)
  • $160 million (2006  - 2013)
  • $200 million (2013 - 2023)

According to these numbers, Tiger made approximately $500 million during his 27 years with Nike. The company’s main revenue in the game came from shoes and clothing as their attempts to manufacture quality clubs never really got off the ground. In fact, one of the ugliest clubs ever made was produced by Nike:

Despite the ups and downs, the relationship was profitable on both ends, especially from 1996 to 2009. Things went downhill after the 2009 Thanksgiving incident with his wife and, although he won again on Tour in 2012 and 2013 and then won the Masters in 2019, things never stayed on track for Tiger after that episode. The question now is, who’s going to be next to leave Nike? Rumors around golf are that the company is pulling out of the game to focus on more strategic markets.
