How much money will Tiafoe or Fritz win for making it to the US Open final? How much if they win title?
Friday evening at Flushing Meadows is going to be in the spotlight as the two Americans battle it out.
Clear your Friday evening plans, because Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe are gearing up for an epic showdown in the 2024 US Open semifinals that you’ll not want to miss.
This all-American clash is scheduled to start around 7 p.m. ET, following the first semifinal match between British No. 1 Jack Draper and top-seeded Italian Jannik Sinner, which should get going by 3 p.m. Expect the Arthur Ashe court to be buzzing with energy, as the idea of a homegrown winner, something that has been two decades in the waiting, feels more than possible.
What prize money is on offer?
The bank balances of both Fritz and Tiafoe are doing ok and, while it will be nice to drop a few more cents into the coffers, they are likely only focused on the prestige that comes with making the final and winning the title.
As semifinalists of the 2024 US Open, they have already bagged a tidy $1 million for their efforts. Winning this clash and becoming the first male American to reach the final since 2006 will add an extra $800,000 to their prize money. And if they are to get US men’s tennis back to the top and beat either Sinnner or Draper, they walk away with $3,600,000. A very nice reward and one that brings so much more!
Fritz vs Tiafoe: head-to-head
Tiafoe, who earned his spot in this appetising semifinal by defeating Grigor Dimitrov in a four-set match that ended prematurely due to Dimitrov’s injury, is eager to rise to the occasion despite not having had much joy against his compatriot over the years. “It’s different on Ashe,” Tiafoe said, referring to the iconic stadium they’ll be playing in on Friday, very aware that he trails 1-6 in their head-to-head, including a 6-3, 6-4 loss in Acapulco last year.
Fritz for his part reached this stage after securing an impressive four-set win over Germany’s Alexander Zverev, 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(3). The last American man to reach a Grand Slam final was Andy Roddick at the 2009 Wimbledon tournament, and he was also the last to win a major at the 2003 US Open. We’ll all be tuned in to potentially see the next chapter in US men’s tennis success.
