How much prize money did Aaron Rai win at the 2024 Wyndham Championship?

Aaron Rai will pocket a cheque for just under $1.5 million after winning the first PGA Tour title of his career this weekend.

Rai produced a six-under final round of 64 to win the Wyndham Championship on Sunday - a marathon day that saw players complete at least 36 holes at a rain-delayed tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The Englishman finished on 18 under, two shots ahead of the US’s Max Greyserman. Greyserman had led by four strokes with five holes to go, only to suffer a late meltdown headlined by a quadruple bogey on the 14th.

How much will Rai be paid for Wyndham Championship win?

Rai will receive $1.422 million for his victory at Sedgefield Country Club. Greyserman will bank $861,100 for finishing second.

America’s JJ Spaun and Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune came joint third, so will each receive $466,100, according to a PGA Tour breakdown of the prize-money amounts paid to players if they finish in a tie.

“Truly a dream come true”

“It’s a dream come true, truly a dream come true,” Rai said after clinching victory with a birdie on the final hole.

Speaking to CBS’ Amanda Balionis, the 29-year-old also spoke of his satisfaction at the way he kept his cool to close out victory.

“Really pleased with how good a job I did of just doing what I normally do,” he said. “I obviously felt a bit nervous at times, that’s pretty normal in that situation. I’m very proud of staying focused and present throughout.”

How many FedEx Cup points did Rai win?

The final event in the regular season, the Wyndham Championship was also a source of FedEx Cup points, as the field for the first playoff tournament of 2024 was confirmed.

The top 70 players in the season-long FedEx Cup standings qualify for the St Jude Championship, which takes place at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, from August 14 to 18.

Victory was worth 500 points to Rai, who is comfortably inside the top 70: having gone into the weekend in 53rd, he has now leapt up the standings to 25th.

Frenchman Victor Perez, who had started the Wyndham Championship in 70th, held on to his place at the St Jude Championship by finishing joint 33rd at Sedgefield Country Club.

Indeed, no players moved into or out of the top 70 at the Wyndham Championship.

American Matt Kuchar had needed to win the tournament to avoid missing out on the FedEx Cup postseason for the first time since its inception in 2007. He was the only player to have appeared in every edition of the playoffs.

Having halted his final round on the 18th hole due to darkness, Kuchar is to finish off his Wyndham Championship on Monday - but is sitting back in joint 12th, seven shots behind Rai.
