The Sony Open is the second leg of the Hawaiian part of the PGA Tour, taking place from the tip of Maui to the toe of Oahu. The full-field event sees 144 players take on the challenges at Waialae Country Club.

Established in 1965, the course boasts gently rolling terrain, narrow fairways with Bermuda grass, thick rough, and smaller greens that demand precision. Weather conditions could play a crucial role, with anticipated forecasted rain showers and high winds adding complexity.

The Sony Open in Hawaii is a professional golf tournament that will take place in January 2024. The tournament will have a prize purse of $8.3 million, which is 2.4% higher than the previous year’s amount. The winner will receive $1,494,000, 18% of the total purse.

The tournament will feature a field of 144 players, including some of the world’s best golfers like Matt Fitzpatrick, Brian Harman, and Tyrrell Hatton. The event is the second of the 2024 PGA Tour season and represents the first full-field event of the year. The tournament will have an open qualifier on Monday, determining the four spots in the event.

After the first 36 holes, a cut will be made, and the top 65 players and ties will compete in the final two rounds. All players who complete four rounds will receive money, with the winner receiving $1,494,000. In addition, the winner will earn 500 FedEx Cup points, similar to other standard events. The winner will also receive 40 Official World Golf Ranking points, with the points available based on the field’s strength.

The champion will enjoy the benefits of winning a PGA Tour event, including a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour and an exemption into next year’s Masters, PGA Championship, The Players, and The Sentry in 2025. This victory will also increase their chances of playing in other major golf events.
