This week the Memorial Tournament will return to Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. The tournament brings together some of the most celebrated players in the world.

Founded by golfing icon Jack Nicklaus in 1976, the the PGA Tour event has become one of the most illustrious fixtures on the tour. It holds the status of ‘invitational’, meaning that the field is limited to just 72 golfers this year.

The Memorial Tournament typically brings together many of the world’s top players, offering real sporting prestige, FedExCup points and a huge prize fund. This year’s tournament boasts a total prize purse of $20 million. The winner will bag a $4 million top prize.

Which PGA Tour golf tournament has the biggest payout?

The Memorial Tournament ranks second in 2025, only behind the Players Championship in terms of total purse.

Golfers at the Players Championship compete for a share of a $25 million total prize fund. The winner bags a $4.5 million top prize, also the largest on the tour.

There are a number of PGA Tour tournaments that offer a total purse of $20 million, including The Masters, The Sentry and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM. However only The Memorial and the Arnold Palmer Invitational offer a $4 million top prize for the winner.
