Is it possible to attend the ‘Fatal Fury’ event in Times Square? Here’s what the organizers say
This Friday, May 2nd, boxing will make history with the first-ever fight card held in Times Square. Can you attend the event? Here’s what you need to know.
New York is getting ready to revolutionize boxing with a completely different kind of fight card. This time, neither Madison Square Garden nor the Barclays Center will host the event. Instead, the streets of Times Square will become the ring for ‘Fatal Fury,’ featuring Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, and Teófimo López.
Óscar de la Hoya, promoter of Golden Boy Promotions, revealed that they expect over half a million people to attend a show that will be both free and historic in the world of boxing.
De la Hoya will have three of his fighters in the main events. Ryan Garcia will face Rolly Romero; Devin Haney will go up against José Ramírez; and Honduran fighter Teófimo López will take on Arnold Barboza.

An unprecedented event
Rick Reeno, Chief Operating Officer of Ring Magazine and the main organizer of the major event in New York, acknowledged that the plan was to do something unprecedented in the boxing world.
“We wanted to do something special, something iconic, because if we put this in any other venue, any other location, it just would have been a really big event with three great fights. We wanted something that like 25 years from now, people will look back and say, ‘Oh my God, can you believe they staged that crazy event in the heart of Times Square?’” he said.
Times Square is known for hosting major events throughout the year. One of the biggest is New Year’s Eve. Because of this, De la Hoya is confident it will be something epic and said he was excited to be part of it.
