After defeating a legend like Mike Tyson, the American content creator and boxer came out even bolder. Ahead of his upcoming fight on Saturday, June 28, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, against Julio César Chávez Jr., Paul stated that his arrival in the boxing world is the sport’s biggest blessing since Ali.“I’m the best thing to happen to boxing since Muhammad Ali. There’s no debate. What I’ve done speaks for itself,” Paul said in a controversial interview with DAZN—comments that are unlikely to sit well with hardcore boxing fans.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Paul backed up his claim by pointing to his contributions outside the ring:“No other boxer is building gyms, putting gloves in kids’ hands, hosting multiple events a year, donating their entire purse to their own foundation like I did when I fought in Puerto Rico.

Helping women go from making $1,000 to five, six, even seven million. Breaking records on Netflix, crashing the site, 128 million global viewers—the list goes on.”

His reference to female fighters earning millions points directly to stars like Amanda Serrano, Katie Taylor, and Natasha Jonas. Paul has been a key promoter of women’s boxing in recent years.

“He’s an idiot”

When asked about his next opponent, Julio César Chávez Jr., Paul had just three words:“He’s an idiot.”

He didn’t stop there—Paul criticized the son of the Mexican boxing legend, saying:“To me, he’s done nothing for the sport. He hasn’t helped other fighters. He doesn’t have a foundation. He’s not lifting anyone up, not putting on events. I don’t think he takes this sport seriously.”

Paul ended the interview with a bold declaration:“I’m going to show the world that I’m the King of Boxing—the one who puts on the biggest events, lifts up the most fighters, and runs the most important cards, over and over again.”
