The planned bout between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis has been canceled. The YouTuber-turned-boxer claimed Davis mistreated him and added that he would never step into the ring against a fighter with a history of domestic violence. Now, a new challenger has emerged willing to take on Paul.

Rolly Romero, the World Boxing Association welterweight champion, said he is ready to face Jake Paul. During an Instagram Live session, Romero suggested he could fight Paul at cruiserweight, a division above his usual 147-pound weight class.

“I’m ready to be the greatest at cruiserweight”

“Greatest welterweight of all time? I’m about to become the greatest cruiserweight of all time. Me versus Jake Paul, we’ll fight in two weeks,” Romero said. “I think Jake Paul is scared of me. I’ll move up to cruiserweight.”

The Cuban-American boxer added that he could be ready in just a week to knock out Paul. He also claimed that doing so would expose what he called the “circus” of Paul fighting opponents outside their natural weight class.

Title defense complicates Paul vs Romero

Romero faces a catch. As the 147-pound WBA champion, he must defend his title against mandatory challenger Shakhram Giyasov of Uzbekistan. Agreements for that fight must be finalized by November 13, potentially affecting his availability to face Paul.

Who will Jake Paul fight? Other potential replacements for Davis

Before Davis withdrew, reports from BoxingScene indicated Paul was already looking for a replacement opponent, possibly in an even higher weight class.

MVP Promotions, the company managing Davis’ fights, reportedly reached out to Ryan Garcia and Terence Crawford to gauge their interest. Still, the latest indications suggest Paul will likely face a heavyweight fighter rather than someone in his usual range.
