Kensington Palace has confirmed that Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, will attend the 2024 Wimbledon men’s singles final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic as she continues her recovery from cancer.

As Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, the setting for The Championships at Wimbledon, Middleton has been a regular visitor to the tournament since marrying Prince William in 2011.

Will Kate Middleton present the trophy to the men’s singles champion at Wimbledon 2024?

The 42-year-old wasn’t in attendance as Barbora Krejcikova and Jasmine Paolini contested the women’s singles final on Saturday but, like last year, will witness the men’s clash between Alcaraz and Djokovic 24 hours later.

In 2023, Middleton handed the trophy over to the young Spaniard at the end of a five-set classic against the veteran Serb on Centre Court. As it stands, there has been no confirmation as to whether she will present the prize once again, with some sources suggestion a decision will be made on Sunday.

Princess of Wales reveals cancer diagnosis

After it was revealed the Princess had undergone planned abdominal surgery in January, she released an official statement in March explaining that post-operative tests had discovered cancer and that she had started a course of chemotherapy the previous month.

Understandably, Middleton has kept a low profile since, with her only previous public appearance in 2024 coming at Trooping the Colour, an event honouring King Charles III’s birthday, in June.

Middleton’s most recent health update

In a statement issued the day before, she gave her most recent update on how her treatment and recovery from her illness were going.

“I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well. My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months.

“On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home.

“I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.

“I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal.”

When will Middleton resume her normal duties?

After Trooping the Colour, it was emphasised that Middleton’s appearance at the event didn’t mean she would be returning to her normal duties. There has been no indication as to when that could happen, which will very much depend on her recovery.
