New Jersey native Liv Morgan rose to the top of WWE in 2024. Following an injury setback that saw her sidelined for six months, the 30-year-old was back in the ring on January 6 as WWE Raw premiered on Netflix.

The former world champion, who in November became the first female Crown Jewel champion and in December retained the title against Iyo Sky, spoke to AS ahead of two milestones: the confirmation that all WWE events will be broadcast live in Spain via Netflix and the build-up to the March 14, Smackdown event from the Palau Olimpic in Badalona, the first time that the WWE will stage a televised event in the country.

Did you always dream of forming part of the WWE?

I don’t know. Being in WWE was my ultimate dream, I didn’t even think about being a champion but everything else feels like a bonus. Since I started, I always had ambitions, but I never really knew if I was going to make it. It’s been a long road. After ten years I’ve been the best women’s champion of all time.

And to become champion, you had to beat Ronda Rousey and Rhea Ripley, two of the most dominant superstars of recent years.

And I helped Becky Lynch retire too, don’t forget that. Little Liv Morgan, who nobody expected anything from, beat Ronda Rousey three times, retired Becky Lynch and also beat Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill, Trish Stratus. I’ve beaten all the crowd-favorite superstars.

Despite everything, fans struggle to accept this dominance. Do you want to shake off the ‘underdog’ tag?

Whether the fans want to respect me or not, I don’t really care anymore. The facts are what they are, why should I care what they think when I’ve already accomplished everything I wanted to do and have everything I set out to do? I’m the greatest champion in history. Why should I care?

What’s the best thing about being part of Judgement Day?

It’s one of my favorite things about going to work every day. It’s the most dominant group in WWE history. Plus, I have my sister, my partner in crime, Raquel Rodriguez, and the most handsome man in WWE history, Dominik Mysterio, by my side.

In addition, the group has a great international flavour

Judgement Day has a different vibe than other groups. We are very versatile and we learn a lot. I have learned different languages, cultures. I learn a lot.

What do you find so interesting about Dominik?

At first I just wanted to hang out with Dominik to make Rhea [Ripley] mad and jealous, but after spending so much time with him, I really like him. I think he’s perfect. The mullet, the moustache, he’s so athletic, so strong, so brave. He’s the hardest working man in WWE. All of those characteristics are super attractive. And he’s the best Mysterio ever.

And do you trust him?

With all my heart. I get asked that a lot and I understand why. Dominik betrayed his father, Rhea and Damian [Priest]. They really let Dominik down. They didn’t accept him for who he was and the difference between me and them is that I do.

Dominik’s father, Rey Mysterio, recently turned 50.

(Laughing) Who cares?

How is your relationship with him?

I have no relationship with him, just like Dominik.

What feels different about this last stage of your career as part of a group and the time before your injury when you were on your own?

I think during my last reign, I felt very different in one way. It was my first championship and the pinnacle of my career in the sense that my wildest dreams had come true. I felt rewarded, but I was also scared and a little naive. I am more confident now than ever.

What has given you that confidence?

My injury gave me a lot of time to reflect and get to know myself. It gave me time to come up with a plan for when I returned to WWE. That time allowed me to improve and blossom into the wrestler I am today. The best thing is that I’m just getting started.

From January 6, Raw will be broadcast live on Netflix…

We are very excited about the debut on Netflix, it is very, very special. All WWE content will be available on Netflix in Spain. Not only Raw and SmackDown, but also the PLE’s [Premium Live Events, formerly known as PPV].

Another big news is that SmackDown will broadcast a show from the Palau Olímpic in Badalona on March 14, can we expect Liv Morgan there?

Of course! I’m always part of a world tour.

The Barcelona show will be part of the Road to Wrestlemania. Who do you want to face in Las Vegas on April 19 or 20?

I don’t know. I’m an honorable champion. There are still many months until Wrestlemania and, as you know, anything can happen in WWE. We’ll see where we are.

You say you retired Becky Lynch, but we all know these decisions aren’t final in wrestling, would you be surprised if the Irish woman went after you in the next few months?

No, because I’m still the most sought-after champion in WWE. Everybody wants to fight me, everybody wants my championship. I wouldn’t be surprised if Becky came out of retirement and came after me.
