Floyd Mayweather Jr. will enter the ring for the first time in over a year on Saturday when he takes on John Gotti III in Mexico City. Money retired from professional boxing after his fight against Conor McGregor in 2017, and since then has been busy putting on increasingly bizarre exhibition bouts.

Mayweather has been promoting one of the best young prospects in the world, Curmel Moton, who has shown some similarities to his former protegée Gervonta Davis.

Mayweather Jr. lists his three top boxers in the world

Talking to Inside Fighting, Mayweather Jr. was asked about who his top three boxers are right now, and Floyd didn’t bite his tongue. The boxing promoter answered by saying that Canelo Alvarez, Ryan Garcia, and Gervonta Davis are, in his opinion, the three best men in the sport.

Canelo and Davis seem obvious picks, but KingRy was a surprising choice, as he hasn’t accomplished many things in boxing yet, hasn’t won a world title, and is surrounded by controversy. However, when it comes to PPV events, charisma, and followers on social media, he’s one of the boxers to keep an eye on.

Nobody should be surprised about Canelo, as he is the undisputed super middleweight champion, former four-division world champion, and the face of boxing when it comes to generating lots of money.

The same applies to Gervonta Davis. The Baltimore native was one of Mayweather Jr.’s protegées and he has proven why there was so much hype surrounding his persona some years ago. He is the WBA lightweight champ and his numbers regarding PPV sales are impressive. He has never tasted defeat and his boxing skills mixed with his power punches make him a fun boxer to watch.

It’s also surprising not to see the names of Naoya Inoue, Terence Crawford, or Devin Haney on Mayweather’s list, as they are all undefeated and have had a brilliant year. Perhaps most telling is that Floyd has snubbed Oleksandr Usyk, the only undisputed heavyweight champion in history.
