US sprinter Noah Lyles and Fred Kerley will compete for the men’s 100m title, but will have to overcome reigning Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs.
The United States have four athletes competing in the men’s 100m race in the 2023 World Athletics Championships and will hope to retain their gold medal in the coveted event.
Fred Kerley picked up the gold in last year’s competition but the defending world champion has a number of serious challengers this time around. American sprinter Noah Lyles has publicly set himself the goal of 9.65, putting him within 0.1 of Usain Bolt’s 100m world record.

They will be competing against 2019 world champion Christian Coleman and reigning Olympic gold medal holder Marcell Jacobs.
“I am in good shape for these Championships, and I am focussed on what I need to do,” Jacobs said ahead of the Budapest event. “Maybe I’ve had too many injuries over the last two years but I have overcome my challenges.
“This is the only medal I’m still missing in my collection so I would like to add it.”

Last year the US team picked up a record-breaking 33 medals at the World Athletic Championships, doing so while hosting the event for the very first time. Reigning champions Ryan Crouser and Chase Ealey (shot put) and Katie Moon (pole vault) will all be hoping to retain their gold medals.
