Musetti: “Alcaraz is the King Midas of tennis”

Lorenzo Musetti didn’t hesitate to praise Alcaraz after his impressive achievements this year, including the Wimbledon title.

Lorenzo Musetti didn’t hesitate to praise Alcaraz after his impressive achievements this year, including the Wimbledon title.

Carlos Alcaraz is fully focused on the hard-court season and training to try to win his 13th ATP title when he competes at the National Bank Open, in Toronto.

Since he won his first Grand Slam event last year, when he defeated Casper Ruud in the US Open final, Alcaraz looks like an even more mature player despite being only 20 and has proven he can perform at the same level in all kinds of surfaces.

At Roland Garros, pressure seemed to be his worst enemy, as he suffered a cramping episode that cost him the semifinals clash against Novak Djokovic, who came out on top in four sets.

However, he managed that situation probably better than expected, as he would end up conquering the Wimbledon title after very little competing experience on grass. He had little trouble defeating every single opponent he faced until the final round, where he met Djokovic again. The Spanish star avenged his elimination in Roland Garros by defeating the Serb in five epic sets.

Musetti says Alcaraz is “The King Midas of tennis”

The latest praise for Alcaraz comes from another young player, Lorenzo Musetti. The world No. 18, who stated that his goal is to reach the top of the rankings and win a Grand Slam event, spoke about Alcaraz for the Italian newspaper La Stampa.

“Today Alcaraz is the point of reference, the player to beat”, he said.

He is the King Midas of tennis: what he touches becomes gold. He is both a friend and a source of inspiration, beating him is a source of pride but also a motivation in more to do it again”, Musetti added.

“He’s only 20, but a maturity reminiscent of Novak Djokovic, he showed at Wimbledon”, he reminded.

Musetti, a specialist clay-courter, will be looking to make a big impact in the upcoming hard-court tournaments. He has no points to defend in the upcoming events, so it could be a good opportunity for him to get some good results and climb some positions in the rankings.
