Update:

The French Open semifinals are here, but the guys from the ‘Nothing Major’ podcast think there’s only one player in the women’s singles bracket who has a chance of winning. The four former pros agree that Swiatek, Gauff and Boisson can start packing their bags. “She’s very confident on that surface (clay),” Jack Sock said about the world No. 1.

“When you hit the ball that hard, it doesn’t matter the surface,” Sam Querrey said about Aryna Sabalenka. “Grass, clay, she’s so good.”

Steve Johnson continued to praise the Belarusian star: “She wins Madrid in kind of dominant fashion because that court is going to be faster,” he said. “But, her tennis is obviously, by ranking, by how well she has done over the past 12 months, is head and shoulders above everyone else.”

Querrey continued: “There’s not a conversation on the women’s side of like who is clearly No. 1 and dominant and it’s Sabalenka.”

Despite the pundits’ confidence in her chances of winning, Sabalenka still has to get past Swiatek in the semifinals just to have a chance at playing Gauff or Boisson in the final. “Tout peut arriver,” the French would say. Anything can happen.
