Novak Djokovic has the record for the most tiebreaks won in a single season
The Serb wanted to keep making history in Wimbledon after winning his 23rd major and against Hubert Hurkacz he did so.
Novak Djokovic is looking to win his eighth Wimbledon trophy and the fifth one in a row, something that can only be done by very few blessed players.
The Serb, who overtook Rafa Nadal with 23 Grand Slam tournaments after winning the French Open, wants to keep adding trophies to his impressive career by winning Wimbledon.
Nole admitted a few weeks ago that his goal was not only to become the champion in London but to also win the US Open to become the first male player to win all four majors in the same season, something that wasn’t done since 1969 when Rod Laver accomplished that feat.
The tiebreak record man
Djokovic is also known to be one of the strongest players in terms of mentality, never giving up when things get difficult.
He also stated that he has been working on his mental strength to overcome stressful situations and come back stronger if things don’t go his way during a match or tournament.
Against Hubert Hurkacz, Djokovic became the first player in the Open era with 13 consecutive tiebreaks won at majors in a single season, overtaking Pete Sampras on 12.
The Pole had a set point in the first tiebreak of the game against Djokovic, but the current world No. 2 managed to save it and win it.
Something similar happened in the second set, with Hurkacz having a 5-4 advantage and serving to close it. Djokovic managed to play his best tennis when most needed again and Hubi saw how his opponent got two sets up. Although Hurkacz won the third set, Djokovic closed the match in four.
