Open Championship weather forecast: What the world’s top golfers can expect at Royal Portrush
Here’s what the weather is looking like ahead of the Portrush tournament.
Almost at the very tip of the island of Ireland, just a few miles west of the Giant’s Causeway, sits the small seaside town of Portrush. The population floats at around 6,000 and the residents often don their windbreakers to take a casual stroll across the beach that acts as a barrier between the lush green land and the freezing North Sea.
On a clear day one can see the Skerries Islands just a few miles off the coast. Most of the time, the thick Irish clouds do their best to keep them hidden.
The one road that cuts through the grass and leads into the town is where you’ll find the Royal Portrush Golf Club, an elite course and club that has been, in the words of the club itself, “home to the game’s great champions and championships since 1888.”
This summer, Royal Portrush is hosting the 153rd Open Championship, where the 156-man field will go head-to-head for the coveted prize.
