Óscar de la Hoya’s latest attack on the legacy of Canelo Álvarez

The Golden Boy Promotions front man, Óscar De la Hoya, again slamed boxer Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez for his fight against Brit John Ryder.

Nuevo golpe de Óscar de la Hoya al legado de Canelo Álvarez

Mexican boxer, Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez is ready for his next fight, against Brit John Ryder in May. For that match-up Canelo is going home, to fight in the city of Guadalajara.

Over the past few years, Golden Boy Promotions front man and former boxer Óscar de la Hoya and Canelo have exchanged verbal jabs and this week saw another verbal assualt from De La Hoya.

In an interview with Fighthub, De la Hoya celebrated Álvarez’s return to Guadalajara, however, he strongly criticized the rival he’s lined up to face on May 6, saying Ryder isn’t at the required level.

“He does it for the Mexicans and that makes me happy, but I’m not sure in which direction he wants to go (…) It seems that he is going backwards inside the ring. He’s fighting these British fighters and it’s doing nothing for his legacy. He needs to raise the level,” he lashed out.

Timothy Bradley adds to criticism

For his part, the American boxer, Timothy Bradley, also attacked the Mexican boxer and said that he is already in the twilight of his career.

“It seems he lost his will. Coming home is a way to cheer up a fighter. I honestly believe that Canelo is in the final stretch of his career, he is in decline because of the way he fights," said the American.

Timothy issued a warning to the Mexican, not to let his guard down against his British opponent, because Ryder could beat him even though everyone is putting down his ability and talking about him as a weak contender.
