Ovechkin quickly approaching Gretzky’s record: These are the top 15 goal scorers in NHL history
Capitals Captain Alex Ovechkin has become the first NHL player to score 200 goals in three different decades. The question is: when will he break No. 99’s record?

On Tuesday, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored the 883rd goal of his NHL career in a 3-1 loss to the Calgary Flames.
Ovechkin became the third NHL player- behind Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe- to reach the 800-goal milestone in December 2022. He has scored 200 or more goals in the last three decades, the first player to ever do so.
He has another record he shares with Teemu Selanne, Johnny Bucyk and Gordie Howe: The only hockey players in history to score 30 or more goals in a season at the age of 39 or older.
“My linemates, teammates do a pretty good job finding me out there, and I just have to finish it up,” Ovechkin said. If he continues this pace, he will reach Gretzky’s record iin early April. No. 99’s record of 894 goals seemed unatainable for decades, but it looks like Ovechkin will reach it this season.
