Sports bra celebration: Dutch speed skater Jutta Leerdam could have earned $1 million for her gold medal win
The Winter Olympics are heating up from Milano Cortina, and maybe the hottest athlete in the minds of the athletic apparel brands is speed skater Jutta Leerdam.

There is nothing like striking while the iron is hot, and even though there have been blizzard conditions in the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, for Jutta Leerdam the iron is piping hot.
From Cortina straight to the bank
Last week, Leerdam made headlines with her race in the 1000m speed skating event. She not only won her first gold, but she cashed in on a massive pay day as one of her sponsors rewarded her efforts and for flashing the logo in the post race celebration.
Nike is expected to pay the Dutch speed skater up to $1 million dollars after she unzipped her skate suit and showed the Nike sports bra she was wearing to the entire world. The image went viral, Nike cashed in and so too did Leerdam.

Not only did Leerman win the gold, and a fat pay check. She broke the Olympic record in her 1000m sprint, posting a time of 1:12.13. In her second Olympic Games, she bested her silver medal in the 1000m back 2022. She also placed fifth in the 500m, but this year she took home gold and won silver in the 500m.
The power couple of the Winter Olympics
Off of the ice, she was known for being the fiancee of boxer and influencer Jake Paul. Jutta and her now husband to be connected when Paul contacted her via Instagram and asked if she wanted to be on his podcast. Fast forward to 2023 and the couple officially made their relation public. Now they are engaged to be married with a diamond ring to go along with her gold medal.
Paul isn´t the only social media star in the relationship. Leerdam has over six million followers on Instagram, and three million more on TikTok. On top of being in the prime of her career, she is a marketing gold mine and Nike was the sure to take advantage of the publicity and attention that the Dutch skater got throughout the Winter Olympics.
According to athlete advertising specialist, Fredereique de Laat via Dutch newspaper AD, “With Nike, I suspect you’re looking at a figure of over a million,.” Leerdam earned $35,000 for her gold medal, but the significance of the gold will mean so much more than the financial gain, especially since that’s not even close to her biggest pay check of the last few weeks.
