The 2023 American Express preview: Odds, picks, predictions, field and prize money
The American Express field is headlined by Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Tony Finau and more of the world’s best players. Everything you need to know here
The American Express 2023 is set to get underway on Thursday, Jan. 19, with five of the world’s top 10 players ready to take on La Quinta, California. The pro-am event will be played across three courses starting Thursday and will feature a 54-hole cut, rather than the standard 36-hole cut seen on a weekly basis. The final round will be played on PGA West’s Pete Dye Stadium Course on Sunday.
Players earn their way into the field based on the PGA Tour’s priority order; the pros play with an amateur each of the initial three days, and they rotate between the three courses for the first three rounds.
World No. 2Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Sony Open winner Si Woo Kim are among the headliners, and are joined by a surprisingly strong field for a standard PGA Tour event; 10 of the top 20 players in the world will play at the tournament, including Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, Will Zalatoris, Cameron Young, among others.
A cut is made after 54 holes to the top 65 players and ties. All players who finish four rounds of the tournament will earn money, with the final round at PGA West’s Stadium Course.
Players are competing for an $8 million purse, with the winner claiming $1.44 million. Below is the complete field and prize breakdown for the 2023 American Express:
