The price of membership at Oakmont Country Club: This is how much it costs to be a member
Located on the outskirts of Pittsburgh, the century-old course hosts the U.S. Open for a tournament-record 10th time this week.

A course described by the United States Golf Association (USGA) as one of the “cathedrals of the game”, Pennsylvania’s Oakmont Country Club is this week hosting the U.S. Open for a record 10th occasion.
And it is a new-look Oakmont that has been readied for the tournament’s 125th edition.
Located just outside Pittsburgh, the 122-year-old course underwent a substantial revamp in 2023, overseen by the golf architect Gil Hanse.
“The ultimate examination”
Given that Oakmont prides itself on being “the ultimate examination of championship golf”, Hanse says his brief was simple.
Speaking to the USGA website this week, he recalled: “The directive when we left the Town Hall meeting when we presented the plan was: ‘It better not be easier when you’re done,’ which is different.
“That obviously shows you the DNA of the club. And what I hear is it’s not easier.”
One of U.S.’s greatest courses
A 7,400-yard course that will be set up as a par 70 for the U.S. Open, Oakmont Country Club placed fifth in Golf Digest’s recent list of the 100 greatest American golf courses.
Where the historic course also charts high is in rankings of the country’s most expensive private golf clubs.
How much is Oakmont membership?
There is conflicting information out there on exactly how much it costs to be a member at Oakmont, as the venue does not publicly disclose its prices.
However, it is evident that prospective members will need to have thousands upon thousands of dollars at their disposal if they want to join.
Reliable publications such as Forbes magazine, Yahoo! Finance and Golf Monthly quote a rumored initiation fee starting at $200,000, in addition to monthly dues of around $10,000.
Whatever the price of membership at Oakmont, one thing is clear: joining the country club is not as simple as turning up with the asking price in your wallet, and making your way to the first tee.
As the Oakmont website is at pains to stress, new members are accepted by invitation only.

Who is the 2025 U.S. Open favorite?
A player chasing a second successive major triumph, Scottie Scheffler is the bookmakers’ clear favorite for victory in Pennsylvania. The 28-year-old has moneyline odds of +280, according to Oddschecker.
The world No. 1, who won the PGA Championship in May, has triumphed in three of the last four PGA Tour events that he has entered.
Scheffler is followed in the betting by the defending U.S. Open champion, Bryson DeChambeau, who is valued at +750.
Masters champion Rory McIlroy, who was runner-up to DeChambeau 12 months ago, is rated back at +1400, after missing the cut at last week’s RBC Canadian Open.
