Update:

Luke Donald will become the first European Ryder Cup captain to stay on for a second successive tournament since Bernard Gallacher (1991, 1993, 1995) when the 2025 edition gets underway at the Bethpage Black Course on Long Island, New York, on Friday, September 26.

The 47-year-old former world No. 1, now ranked 1,047, will be assisted by vice-captains José María Olazábal and Thomas Bjorn, both of whom have previously acted as captain, along with Alex Noren and Francesco and Edoardo Molinari. Donald will, of course, also be accompanied by his wife, Diane Antonopoulos.

A supportive partner from Chicago

We have to assume that being Donald’s spouse, as well as her Greek roots, means Antonopoulos will be rooting for Team Europe despite hailing from Chicago. She was born and raised in Glenview, a small Illinois town approximately 15 miles northwest of downtown Chicago.

The couple met in her home state in 2001, near the end of Donald’s time at Northwestern University. Antonopoulos studied psychology, while Donald combined his burgeoning golfing career with studying art theory and practice. In addition to his skill on the course, Donald is also talented on the canvas; one of his oil paintings was auctioned for charity by the PGA Tour in 2002.

Antonopoulos contributes to Team Europe

Like her husband, Antonopoulos has also been involved with Team Europe in the Ryder Cup. She has managed a number of events connected to the tournament and revealed on social media earlier this year that she had planned a dinner for the European team.

Donald proposed to Antonopoulos in 2006, and they married a year later on the Greek island of Santorini. Together, they have three daughters: Elle, born in 2010; Sophia Ann, born in 2011; and Georgina, born in 2014.

Homes in Illinois and Florida

Donald and Antonopoulos own two homes in Illinois (Northfield and Evanston) and a third in Jupiter, Florida, where a host of PGA Tour players, including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Brooks Koepka, have lived over the years. The area is popular for its favorable weather, luxurious but relatively reasonably priced housing, and extraordinary number of golf courses.
