Update:

Former World No. 1 Tiger Woods has announced the passing of his mother, Kultida, just days after she attended his TGL match in Florida.

Kultida Woods was a prominent presence at her son’s events over the years, particularly following the death of her husband, Earl, in 2006. In announcing the sad news, Tiger Woods described her as his “biggest fan and greatest supporter”, paying tribute to the impact that she had had on his life and his career.

“It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning,” Woods wrote on social media on Tuesday.

“My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable. She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible."

“She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. Thank you all for your support, prayers and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you Mom.”

Tiger Woods' mother prompted iconic decision

Tiger Woods has previously said that his mother never got “enough credit” for her part in his career, including one significant sartorial choice that became iconic in the world of sport. Woods' tradition of wearing red on the final day of tournament was first suggested by Kultida at a young age.

“The PGA TOUR family is saddened by the passing of Kultida Woods,” PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan added. ”Those of us who have been lucky enough to have a firsthand view of Tiger Woods’ career know how much both his greatness and his humanity have stemmed from the love and support of his mother. We will cherish our memories of her and our thoughts are with Tiger, his children Sam and Charlie, and their entire family as they mourn her loss.”

Kultida Woods was born in Kanchanaburi, Thailand in 1944 and moved to Bangkok as a young adult. She began working at a US Army Base during the Vietnam War and met Earl Woods, Tiger’s father, when he was stationed there. They married in 1969 and moved to the US soon after. In December 1975, Kultida gave birth to her only child, Eldrick ‘Tiger’ Woods.
