Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury are interested in staging a possible unification fight for the heavyweight titles, according to boxing promoter Frank Warren.

Usyk retained his WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight titles in a split decision victory over Anthony Joshua on Saturday, before challenging WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in a post-fight interview.

Warren: It will be a historic match

“He and Usyk would make a great fight,” said Warren. “It’s a fight that I think will happen because both teams want it to happen. Usyk said it’s the only fight he’s interested in, and the same goes for Tyson. It’s just a matter of seeing where the most revenue will be generated because it’s a unique fight and a historic match.

It is the first time since God knows how long that the four belts can be aligned. Both fighters are undefeated and the entire boxing world will be delighted with this fight.”

Fury to emerge from retirement

Fury had declared that he was already retired, but said in a social media post that he is willing to go out of retirement to reclaim the heavyweight belts for England.

“If you want those belts back, then send in the gypsy barbarian of England! C’mon! Send me in,” he exclaimed.

He however warned that setting up a match between him and Usyk would be expensive, as one needs to pay if they want to have the best.

Warren said that a British match between Fury and Joshua could take place in the future, but said Joshua needs to get back on track to make it happen.

“If Anthony Joshua gets a couple of wins, plus I think Tyson will beat Usyk, it would be a must fight. But Joshua needs to get back on his feet before he can even think about fights like these.”
