When is Canelo Álvarez’s next fight? Date, time, opponent and venue
The Mexican super middleweight king Canelo Ávarez will face his mandatory challeger, WBO interim champ John Ryder, for all the marbles on May 6

Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez may have flirted with light heavyweight in his loss to Dmitrii Bivol, but a convincing win over Gennady Golovkin at Super Middleweight seems to have convinced the Mexican to stay at his more natural weight and defend his titles.
In a homecoming bout, Canelo will face mandatory challenger, WBO interim super middleweight champ John Ryder at the Estadio Akron in Guadalajara. The home of Chivas soccer team will see a 50,000-strong crowd pile in to see their local boy as he tries to win the right to call himself “undisputed”.

It has been nearly 12 years since Canelo has fought in his home country and fans around the world will be able to check out all of the action on DAZN.
Canelo vs. Ryder date and time
- Date: Saturday, May 6
- Location: Estadio Akron, Guadalajara, Jalisco (Mexico)
- Time: 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT
- Ringwalks: 11 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. PT
The 32-year old Canelo (58-2-2 39 KOs) will face an opponent two years his senior but with only half of the professional experience. Ryder (32-5 18 KOs) will be looking to spoil the Cinco de Mayo celebrations in the biggest fight of his career. He will be the third British challenger for Canelo, who swept aside Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, and Rocky Fielding.
Canelo has earned the right to fight wherever he wants to, and he is clear that where he wants to fight is Mexico. “I feel really happy to be coming back in May because following my surgery, I was unsure of when I’d be coming back. Returning to the ring and coming back to fight in Jalisco, where I’m from, makes me especially happy. And in John Ryder, I’m facing a very competitive fighter.”
Ryder has made no secret of the fact that he is a huge Canelo fan, saying, “There’s no denying that Canelo is one of the greats and I’ve got a lot of respect for what he’s achieved in the sport but I fully believe this is my time fulfil my dream of becoming a world champion.”
“I’m not going over there for a holiday. For me this is purely business and my full focus is on going into his backyard in Guadalajara on May 6 and bringing those belts back with me to the UK.”
