When is the 2024 Presidents Cup? How to watch on TV and stream online

Unlike typical PGA events, where players compete individually, this is a team-based competition, which brings a different dynamic to the game for viewers.

The Presidents Cup offers a distinctive twist on how traditional golf tournaments are played. In this event, the top golfers from the United States face off against an international team, battling it out over several days in various competition formats.

The Presidents Cup field is much smaller than a standard PGA event. While tournaments like the Wells Fargo Championship feature over 100 golfers, the Presidents Cup hosts just 24 players, with 12 on each team.

The competition spans four days and includes five rounds, with a total of 30 matches determining the victorious team. Each match carries a single point, and the first team to win the most matches claims the coveted Cup. This year, the Presidents Cup will return to The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, from September 24 to 29, 2024. The Royal Montreal Golf Club is the oldest in North America and the oldest in continuous existence, celebrating 150 years in 2023.

What’s the format of the competition?

The event begins with foursomes, where partners hit the same ball on each hole. For example, if you have two partners, one might hit the ball down the fairway, and then the next one would take the next shot toward the green. On the second day, the format changes to four-ball, where each partner plays their ball, and the team takes the lowest score on each hole. Saturday features both foursomes and four-ball rounds. The event ends on Sunday with singles matches, where players compete individually.

The team that wins the most matches over the four days wins the Presidents Cup, with a total of 30 points available.
