Update:
‘Iron Mike’ will step into the ring to take on social media celebrity and boxer Jake Paul in July. When was Mike Tyson’s last fight?

Boxing has some interesting but also very unexpected bouts to offer this year. While the last crossover fight saw Anthony Joshua knock Francis Ngannou out in the first round last Friday, social media celebrity turned-into boxer Jake Paul will take on the living legend Mike Tyson in July.

This will be a big step up for Paul in terms of attention, as after Ryan Bourland he will be taking on one of the most famous boxers and personalities in the sports world. That means that many fans all over the world will tune up to see how the fight plays out between the two men.

The Ohio native will be the favorite going into the fight with Tyson, as there’s a 30-year difference between them. The younger of the Paul brothers is 27, while Tyson is 57 and has been in lots of wars throughout his career. However, the former world heavyweight champion has proven to be in great shape despite his age, showing great movement and good punching power in the training videos that have been released on social media.

Will Tyson be able to defeat the much younger fighter? While Paul believes that age will take a toll on Tyson’s performance, the 1984 Golden Gloves gold medalist believes he still has the form and the power to defeat Paul.

Mike Tyson: a knockout monster

Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history when he defeated Trevor Berbick via TKO in the second round in 1986, at the age of 20.

His imposing looks and the power he possessed in his prime in his hands made him one of the most feared boxers of all time. Most of the fighters that faced him weren’t able to make it to the 12th round, being knocked out in the very first rounds.

Those who managed to deal with Tyson’s power had to make him tired by clinching or keeping him at bay with good jabs, otherwise his opponents were in for an early night.

Tyson ended his boxing career with a record of 50 wins (44 KOs), six losses, and two no-contests. His two wars with Evander Holyfield, and the fights against Lennow Lewis, Buster Douglas, and Michael Spinks are among some of the most remembered ones.

Mike Tyson’s last boxing match

Although Tyson retired from boxing in 2005, the Brooklyn-bred has managed to keep in shape. Despite dealing with alcoholism for a few years, he started having a healthier life, going to the gym to stay fit.

While many would think he shouldn’t be stepping into the ring at his age, the truth is that Tyson seems to be aging quite well.

He proved that in 2020, in his most recent fight, against Roy Jones Jr. Both men fought each other to a draw in an eight-round exhibition bout at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Tyson and Jones Jr. probably performed better than expected, with both former champions taking solid shots and showing the skills and movement that made them special back in the day.

The question now is if that version of Tyson will show up again or if he has slowed down since 2020. If that Tyson shows up, Jake Paul will have to dig deep to emerge victorious. If Mike’s reflexes are not there anymore, he is in for a tough night, as Paul is improving in every fight and has proven that he has knockout power too.
