The five-time Wimbledon singles champion Venus Williams is set to team up with British doubles specialist, Jamie Murray as the pair were given a wildcard to the 2022 mixed doubles competition. The elder of the sisters was at Centre Court on Tuesday as younger sister Serena crashed out in the first round of what could be her last singles appearance at the London SW19 arena.
Serena’s hopes of a winning a record-equalling 24th grand slam title at Wimbledon were terminated after she was beaten by the unheralded Harmony Tan in an epic first-round match.
Williams went down 7-5 1-6 7-6 (10-7) on Centre Court in her first singles match since being forced to withdraw in the opening round of last year’s tournament at the All England Club, when she suffered a hamstring injury during a contest with Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

The presence of the Williams sisters at the iconic Wimbledon tournament has seen an uplift in interest in King Richard, the 2021 American biographical sports drama film directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and written by Zach Baylin.
The film stars Will Smith as Richard Williams, the father and coach of famed tennis players Venus and Serena Williams (both of whom served as executive producers on the film) with the movie generating positive critical acclaim upon release land later going onto be nominated for six Oscar Awards.
The tennis stars are played by Californian actresses Saniyya Sidney, who plays young Venus Williams with her sister Serena played by Louisiana native Demi Singleton. The movie showcases how father Richard works tirelessly to steer his daughters into the world of professional tennis and how ultimately his persistence and doggedness pays off with, ultimately the pair going onto be two of the most successful players of the modern era.
