When the previous year’s winner of your prestigious golf tournament swaps PGA for LIV Golf, there is likely to be some disappointment that he won’t be there to defend his crown. That’s exactly what has happened for the 2024 Genesis Invitational with Spanish star John Rahm the man to have jumped from a non-sinking, but less opulent, ship. Rahm aside, the field that will take to the course at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, remains very impressive, and Tiger Woods is committed to playing in the competition he hosts annually of behalf of his TGR Foundation.

Last Wednesday, the golfing legend took to social media to announce his participation saying, “Excited to be a playing host next week.”

When is the 2024 Genesis Invitational?

The tournament will be played from 15-18 February at the aforementioned Riviera Country Club, and the $20 million purse has brought plenty of top stars to join host Woods in playing, including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, Jordan Spieth and Jason Day. If you’re keen to watch the action unfold, we’ve pulled together a handy guide to provide more information on viewing options.

Has Tiger Woods ever won the Genesis Invitational?

Despite participating in 14 tournaments at Riviera, Tiger, now aged 48, has yet to secure a victory there. His closest brush with victory occurred in 1999, where he clinched second place at what was then called the Nissan Los Angeles Open. However, Woods’ fortunes at Riviera took a tragic turn after the Genesis Invitational in February 2021, where he was involved in a single-car accident resulting in severe leg injuries.

Following the incident, the legendary golfer, boasting 82 tour wins, has only competed in six official PGA Tour events. Notably, one of these was the 2023 Genesis, during which he posted a 1-under 283, landing him in a shared 45th place finish.
