The Formula 1 World Championship returns to action with the Belgian GP held in Spa this weekend after the summer break. The race experienced a bombshell on the first day of holidays with the announcement by Aston Martin that they would be signing Fernando Alonso. The British team will have Alonso’s services beginning 2023 with a multi-year contract with open clauses that would give the driver to option to leave the team, or stay, at the end of each of the three seasons he has signed up for.

Another big piece of news was the announcement by McLaren that they would be releasing Daniel Ricciardo at the end of this season and that they would buy out the last year of his contract. The Australian, visibly saddened by the news, says he will announce his future plans in the sport soon.

Verstappen will look to strengthen his lead

The Hungarian GP left Max Verstappen an even more convincing leader of the World Cup after winning a race in which he began in tenth place on the starting grid. The Ferraris once again suffered from a lack of pace and strategy and could only finish fourth and sixth with Sainz ahead of Leclerc.

Hamilton and Russell completed the Magyar podium. Thus, ‘Mad Max’ went quietly on vacation with an 80-point advantage over Leclerc.
