Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez will continue to be teammates with Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing for another two years. The Mexican driver signed a new multi-year contract on Tuesday that will keep him at one of the best teams in Formula One until the conclusion of the 2024 season.

Following his historic win at the Monaco Grand Prix, Checo was so excited about winning the race that he was caught on camera joking that he had “probably signed [the new contract] too early,” and the team principal Chris Horner laughed at the comment. This means that the Mexican driver had signed the new contract before the race, but the news was confirmed on Tuesday.

Red Bull Racing will retain the same line up

This is the second year that Pérez has been driving for Red Bull Racing, after joining in 2021, and the team will continue with the same line up for the next two seasons. With this new deal, it closes the door for Pierre Gasly to join Red Bull in the near future, and the French driver will most likely remain at AlphaTauri at least until the end of the 2023 campaign.

He [Pérez] is in this championship just as much as Max is. The difference between the two of them is 15 points now, it’s nothing, so it’s a long way to go in this championship,” Horner said on Sunday following Checo’s victory.
