After Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann, these global superstars could be next for MLS this summer
Messi, James Rodríguez and Thomas Müller could be joined in MLS by more big names after Griezmann’s move to Orlando City was confirmed.

Antoine Griezmann has become the latest marquee name to join Major League Soccer, adding even more global star power to a league that continues to grow in prestige and visibility.
The French forward is now the 20th World Cup winner in history to play in MLS and one of just four still active at the international level to make the move to the United States.
His arrival places him alongside elite names such as Lionel Messi, Thomas Müller, Rodrigo De Paul, James Rodríguez and Timo Werner, as MLS continues to position itself as a destination for world-class talent. Griezmann will join Orlando City this summer following the World Cup, a tournament that could trigger another wave of high-profile arrivals.

Transfer buzz building ahead of summer window
In recent weeks, and even in the last few days, several major players have been linked with potential MLS moves. The upcoming summer transfer window is shaping up to be another pivotal moment for the league as it looks to build on its growing international appeal.
Still, not every star is ready to make the jump.
Vinícius Júnior addressed the trend on Thursday, praising Griezmann’s move but making it clear he has no plans to follow suit anytime soon. The Real Madrid winger said he still sees his immediate future in Spain with the European giants.
Three global stars who could follow Griezmann to MLS
Mohamed Salah
Mohamed Salah recently confirmed he will not stay at Liverpool beyond the 2025-26 season, opening the door to a new chapter in his career. MLS has already emerged as a potential landing spot, with San Diego FC frequently mentioned as a strong candidate. The club’s Egyptian ownership could play a key role in attracting Salah to Southern California.
🗣️ Don Garber tells me he'd like to see Mo Salah join the league, but adds MLS are unlikely to provide financial support to help facilitate a move as they did with Lionel Messi.

Casemiro
Casemiro is another name gaining traction. Reports indicate that both LA Galaxy and Inter Miami have shown interest in the Manchester United midfielder, who is not expected to extend his stay in England beyond this season. A move to MLS could offer a fresh challenge late in his career.
Robert Lewandowski
Robert Lewandowski has also been linked with a switch to the United States. The Barcelona striker’s time in Spain appears to be nearing its conclusion, and MLS has long been floated as a possible next step. Clubs such as Inter Miami and LAFC have previously been connected to the Polish star.
