The Tigres are one step away from adding a new star forward to their roster. Nicolás Ibáñez already has an agreement with the club and will soon become André Pierre-Gignac’s new partner in attack. Sources close to the club told AS Mexico that only a few small details remain for the transfer to go through, enabling the Argentinean to become the second reinforcement of the Diego Cocca era.

Tigres reached an agreement with Pachuca’s board of directors for the transfer of the South American and this weekend, it will be determined which foreign player will be sacrificed to be within the allowed quota of players who have not come up through the system in Mexican football.

Ibáñez will join after enjoying a spectacular season with the Tuzos, having been the top goal scorer of the Apertura 2022 with 11 goals as the team lifted the Liga MX, the club’s seventh.

Nico’s adventure with the Auriazules should be made official at some point over the next few days. He will not be able to complete his move to face his old club in Sunday’s Week 2 fixture but may be available for next week’s game, away at Tijuana. He will sign a four-year contract with UNAL, who will be his third team in Aztec football since his arrival in the country.

Ibáñez’s numbers in the Liga MX

  • 27 goals in 55 games at Atlético San Luis
