Everything indicates that the last Andrés Guardado appearance with the Mexican National Team was at the Qatar World Cup with the Real Betis player having already spoken to FMF President Yon De Luisa regarding his intentions.

Guardado was substituted in the win over Saudi Arabia with the 2-1 victory insufficient to see Tata Martino’s men advance to the Round of 16 with the game rounding off a disappointing World Cup 2022 tournament for Mexico.

During the AS 2022 Gala held in Madrid on Tuesday night, the veteran player spoke to AS and Guardado admitted that he will not wear the famous green shirt again unless the FMF (Mexican Federation) request a tribute game as a means of acknowledging his service with El Tri.

‘No’ to a sixth World Cup

With 179 caps to his name and with five World Cups under his belt, Guardado ruled out a sixth as he collected his prize for the AS America award and speaking to host Susana Guasch acknowledged that a sixth tournament would be a bridge too far for the Guadalajara man despite the 2026 World Cup being staged in Mexico, Canada and the USA.
