Antonio Conte’s time on the Tottenham Hotspur bench has come to an end as the Premier League club issued a statement confirming that the club and Italian coach had parted ways due to ‘mutual consent’.

The writing on the wall for the 53-year-old after his now famous outburst after the recent Premier League game as his Spurs side let a 3-1 lead slip at bottom side Southampton as Conte stated post game: “It is easy in this way. Tottenham’s story is this, 20 years there is the owner and they never won something but why? The fault is only for the club, or for every manager that stay here. I have seen the managers that Tottenham had on the bench. You risk to disrupt the figure of the manager and to protect the other situation in every moment. Until now I try to hide the situation but now, no, because I repeat I don’t want to see what I have seen today.”

He concluded: “Everyone has to take their responsibility. Not only the club, the manager and the staff. The players have to be involved in this situation because it is time to change this situation if Tottenham want to change.

Changes at Spurs

Tottenham thanked Conte for his services and confirmed that Cristian Stellini will take the team as Acting Head Coach for the remainder of the season, along with Ryan Mason as Assistant Head Coach.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy added: “We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our Club and amazing, loyal supporters.”
