Arsenal are confident of agreeing a deal to sign Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus, according to The Times.

The Brazilian, who had been linked with a move to Spain, wants to join the Gunners.

Arsenal’s opening bid was in the region of £30 million, which was short of City’s valuation of around £50 million. The London club are expected to increase their offer for the Brazil international.

Arteta keen

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has made the 25-year-old one of his priority signings ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Jesus’ contract at City expires in 2023 and has been offered to Arsenal rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. Last season, he scored 13 times and managed 12 assists in all competitions for Premier League champions City.

Haaland joins City

The arrival of Erling Haaland will mean less game time for Jesus, who wants to play regular football before the World Cup this winter.

The signing of the forward would be a major boost to Arsenal’s attacking options having lost strikers Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this year.
